Hold your breath! Facebook has set a planned date for its initial public offering on May 18. However, just days before this major milestone, General Motors announced to pull in paid ads from Facebook saying that its paid ads have little impact on sales.
GM will continue to promote all of its products and brands on Facebook and engage with its customers adding that Social Media is an important and powerful tool. GM is planning to expand its Facebook presence but for free through the development of a strong content strategy.
“Just wanted to let our millions of Facebook fans know, we’re still here, and we ‘like’ you back! We may not be advertising on Facebook at the moment but we’ll still be talking with you all daily. If anything, we will be providing more content across our many GM Facebook pages – including Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac – to keep the dialogue going” GM have posted today on its Facebook page.

With the rising problem of complaints received by Facebook regarding nosy employers asking for passwords to review employees’ personal profiles and, as a result, break into an employee’s private life, Facebook unquestionably has a lot on its plate. As per a recent post on Business Week, Super Bowl fans are now using Twitter along with the Super Bowl running on TV to create a true “two screen” experience.
An estimated 144 million Americans own tablet computers or smartphones, said Roger Entner, an analyst at Recon Analytics LLC. Of those, 40 percent use the devices daily while watching television, according to Nielsen. Of that tally, half of the tablet owners and 42 percent of the smartphone users also visit social sites such as those run by Twitter Inc. and Facebook Inc. while watching TV, media- viewership tracker Nielsen Nielsen noted.
Commercials now instruct viewers to “Like this on Facebook” or to “Tweet with this hashtag.” The iPad allows for a seamless experience without the burden of a keyboard.
